FEST - New Directors | New Films Festival

We are delighted to announce the launch of the film submission period for the 12th edition of FEST - New Directors | New Films Festival, which  will take place between the 20th and the 27th of June 2016, in the Portuguese seaside town ofEspinho.

As usual, the event will have its main focus on the unveiling of new faces in the international film scene, with a complete and widespread competition program that will be giving out 10 awards in total. 

We are currently accepting feature films, Fiction and Documentary, from directors who are on their first or second production, regardless of age. We are also accepting short and medium length films (of up to 54 minutes) for our fiction, documentary, animation and experimental competitions, from directors up to the age of 30 (including).

After a tremendously successful experience in 2015, where we broke all submission records, the organization of the event decided to expand the submission alternatives. So alongside online submissions via our 
own website (www.fest.pt and the traditional physical submission process, applicants can also use our partner platforms:
 
 
The Deadline is the 28th of February, but be sure to submit the earliest possible to maximize possibilities.
 
FEST – New Directors | New Films Festival, will take place in Espinho, a  seaside summer hotspot of Portugal between the 20th and the 27th of June , and is now one of the most important cultural events in Portugal, a great opportunity and an excellent forum for the new Filmmakers who wishes to establish himself in this industry.
 
Running parallel to the Festival, we also host the FEST Industry Meetings (for one on one meeting with Film Producers), FEST - Training Ground (A high level film trainning program) and FEST - Pitching Forum, that connects filmmakers with producers and financiers.


We have a minimal fee for submission of 2 Euro for short films and 5 Euro for Feature films, the fee is not applicable for national films.

Eye 2 Eye




 
 
Within the frame of its Eye to Eye initiative supported by the Audience Development scheme of the Creative Europe – MEDIA Programme, Wide will launch films on Video on Demand simultaneously as their theatrical & festivals screenings in the United Kingdom, Spain, France and Croatia. Eye to Eye has a strong ambition to develop a business model encouraging bridges between VoD platforms, festivals and cinemas with the aim of attracting new audiences to independent cinema.

SPAIN

One film selected at Seville European Film Festival (FROM CALIGARI TO HITLER by Rüdiger Suchsland) and two films selected at Gijon International Film Festival (DORA OR THE SEXUAL NEUROSES OF OUR PARENTS by Stina Werenfels and COSMODRAMA by Philippe Fernandez) will be released on VoD on Filmin the day of their festival screening. In addition, Spanish Cinema on Demand service Screen.ly will actively promote the films on its platform in order to guarantee theatrical screenings during the weeks following the VoD releases.

CROATIA

Zagreb Film Festival will screen the film SUPERNOVA within the frame of its PLUS Programme dedicated to teenagers. Director Tamar Van Den Dop will participate in a Q&A and a masterclass about the process of making a film and debate with teenagers about what makes them go to cinema. SUPERNOVA will be proposed simultaneously than its screening at Zagreb Film Festival on MAXtv online platform.

UNITED KINGDOM

SILENT ONES directed by Ricky Rijneke will be the last film of the Eye to Eye season to be screened at Somerset Film’s Engine Room on the 26th of November. Rijneke’s film will be available simultaneously on the VoD platform of FilmDoo. This screening ends a cycle composed of 6 European Films (including Peter Krüger’s N – THE MADNESS OF REASON and Ignas Jonynas’ THE GAMBLER) that were launched on VoD at the same moment as their screening at the cinema located in Bridgewater, Somerset.

UKRAINE

Within the frame of the 45th edition of Molodist International Film Festival in Kiev, six European films from the Eye to Eye catalogue have been selected to be part of a tour in Ukraine. Under a special partnership with Molodist, the films HIDE AND SEEK by Joanna Coates (UK), HAPPY by Jordan Goldnadel (France), THE MAN IN THE ORANGE JACKET by Aik Karapetian (Latvia), THE MANEATER by Natalie Saracco (France), PANAMA by Pavle Vuckovic (Serbia) and 2 NIGHTS TILL MORNING by Mikko Muparinen (Finland/Lithuania) will be presented to the Ukrainian audience in different cities through the country (Kiev, Odessa, Lviv, Vinnytsia and Kharki) from the 12th to the 18th of November 2015.

FRANCE

The 17th Rencontres des Cinémas d’Europe taking place in Aubenas, France, from the 15th to the 22nd of November, will present 3 Eye to Eye films in the European Panorama. ROSEVILLE by Martin Makariev and THE LESSON by Kristina Grozeva & Petar Valchanov will represent Bulgaria while MY SKINNY SISTER by Sanna Lenken will be part of the German section. ROSEVILLE will also be available on VoD on our platform Eyeflick.net simultaneously as its screening within the frame of the festival. At this occasion, partnerships will be launched with French website specialized in genre films. They will publish articles about ROSEVILLE and and organize together with the festival online contests to make people win gift codes to watch the film for free on the Eyeflick.net VoD platform.

FEST Training Ground is an annual film conference\training event that takes place alongside FEST New Directors | New Films Festival. Its eighth edition will take place from the 21st to the 26th of June in Espinho, Portugal.

FEST Training Ground hosts more than 25 masterclasses and 10 workshops during the festival, and is an educational event where the public and upcoming filmmakers and film students from all over the world, attend deluxe training, lectured by some of the film industry’s top experts with highly acknowledged achievements.

A different array of key issues on filmmaking will be approached, including scriptwriting,cinematographyeditingsound designphotographyproduction designactingdirecting,castingnon-fiction filmmakingmake uppitchingdistributionfinancing, and many more.

Cartoon Digital - Luxembourg

Dear Professional,

As you know the MEDIA programme actively supports the training of professionals from new member countries (Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Cyprus, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Macedonia, Malta, Montenegro, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia).

To this end, CARTOON encourages applications for scholarships to its CARTOON MASTERS. The next Cartoon Digital will be held in Luxembourg (Luxembourg) from 2nd to 4th December 2015.
CARTOON will cover hotel (3 nights from 2nd to 5th December) and meals, and refund up to a maximum of 200 EUR for transportation expenses.

KRAKOW: A Polish court has decided that the US claim to extradite Roman Polański from Poland is unwarranted. The decision, which is not legally binding, was announced on 30 October 2015. The prosecutor's office can appeal the ruling.

WARSAW: The Supervisory Board of Polish public broadcaster TVP accepted a series of structural changes introduced by new President Janusz Daszczyński.
VIENNA: Austria is considering a bilateral coproduction agreement with Cyprus.
BYDGOSZCZ: Fifteen international productions will screen in the Main Competition of the 23rd International Film Festival of the Art of Cinematography, Camerimage.
